Stole Making Workshop with Reiko Sudo

Since 1994, Nuno has pursued an on-going Nuno OriOri project to upcycle various leftover materials and castoff by-products into fashion and interior décor items. This workshop will focus on our tsugihagi patchwork method, a very basic technique by which we have created many new products. Reiko Sudo will be bringing with her some 100 Nuno textile remnants that have piled up for one reason or another, or simply were trial-and-error swatches from producing new textiles, as well as MUJI fabric remnants. In the 2 hours workshop, through simple hand stitching techniques, we will be using these materials in different combination to create your own one-of-a-kind scarf or throw.

Message from Reiko Sudo:

I am a professor at Tokyo Zokei University and the Design Director of Nuno Corporation, a small independent studio dedicated to revitalize Japan’s traditional culture by means of new technologies and materials so as to develop new textiles befitting today’s lifestyles.

Today’s lecture-workshop hopes to further spread the ideas and practices of the creative reuse movement here in Singapore so as to promote different possibilities in upcycling and alternative manufacturing. The important thing to remember is, waste materials didn’t start off as waste. Each item and material has its own story from inception to disposal, and each story can be amended and changed to make a new story.
